The former Roman province of Lusitania (which lends its name to this journey on the Al Andalus luxury train) stretched from Western Spain and through Portugal south of the Douro River. On a weeklong journey from Seville, you’ll take in the near-ancient wonders of Al Andalus – Islamic Spain, and cross the modern-day border to spend time in Portugal's leading cities Lisbon and Porto enjoying indulgent dining, cocktail evenings, you'll explore each destination with everything from guided tours to wine tastings.

UK/Seville
Begin your trip with complimentary airport lounge access before flying into Seville, Andalucia’s fascinating capital. Whether it’s Moorish defences, Roman ruins or Christianity’s exuberance, it seems as if all the world has left its mark on this thousand-year-old city. Its Gothic cathedral proudly exhibits an Islamic minaret as a bell tower and the Alcázar is a great Moorish castle that cloaks a beautiful royal residence.

Seville/Merida
After breakfast meet your travelling companions in the lobby of the Hotel Alfonso XIII. Later you will tour the capital of Andalusia, which has the most beautiful monumental sites, formed by The Cathedral, The Royal Alcazar and The Archive of the Indies all declared World Heritage sites. After lunch enjoy a panoramic view of the city and tour the famous Plaza de España, before boarding the Al Andalus Train.
The luxurious Al Andalus first built for members of the British monarchy to travel between Calais and the French Riviera, cabins recall all the grandeur of the Belle Époque, featuring plush fabric sofas, gilded wood panelling and even hydromassage showers. The lounge carriages are equally regal, host to dances, cocktail evenings and live performances along with gourmet dining and show cooking.
Enjoy a welcome drink on the train and a crew presentation before being taken to your room. Dinner on board, as you head to Mérida, where you will spend the night.

Merida/Lisbon
Start the morning, as every day, enjoying a delicious á la carte breakfast and buffet. Then you will visit Mérida, the ancient "Emerita Augusta" with one of the most important and largest archaeological sites in Spain. Declared a World Heritage Site. Lunch in a typical Extremaduran restaurant before returning to the train in the afternoon to start the journey to Portugal. Dinner on board

Lisbon/Porto
After breakfast, visit the Monastery of Los Jerónimos, a World Heritage Site, the Belém Tower and the Monument to the Discoverers. Enjoy a panoramic tour of the city and have lunch in a typical restaurant. The afternoon will be dedicated to the city centre and its neighbourhoods, where we will have some free time. Dinner on board as the train starts its journey to Porto. Night in Porto.

5
Porto
After breakfast, say goodbye to the crew and the train and go to visit Bairro Alto with its Cathedral. Then take a boat ride through the Ribera del Duero, a World Cultural Heritage site, to end up in a wine cellar on the banks of the river. Sample typical Portuguese food in a restaurant in Porto. After lunch around 1700 say goodbye to the group and head to your hotel.

A final day to explore the sights of Porto before a private transfer will take you to the airport for your flight home
