Day by day itinerary

Day 1
Depart for Delhi

Begin your journey with complimentary airport lounge access before your direct flight to India's capital. Upon arrival you'll be met by a guest ambassador and transferred to your hotel – the majestic Leela Palace. Offering a serene oasis amidst the bustling city, the hotel's impressive facade pays homage to the Lutyens' Delhi architectural style, while the interiors showcase a blend of ancient Indraprastha and medieval Shahjahanabad influences. Guests can indulge in world-class amenities, including a rooftop infinity pool, a luxurious spa and multiple gourmet restaurants offering a variety of cuisines.

The rest of your day is at your leisure to settle into your new surroundings. Delhi stands as the capital of modern India. Here you can see the mingling of the Old and New India, the ancient and the modern. Delhi is made up of seven ancient cities, spanning the period from the 11th to 20th centuries. It has seen the rise and fall of many emperors, which has left behind a plethora of monuments that commemorate the grandeur and glory of bygone ages. Very few cities in the world can express such a profusion of architectural styles.

Day 2
Old Delhi food tour & city sightseeing

Today, after a very light breakfast at the hotel you'll depart in anticipation of a culinary adventure. You'll team up with a renowned chef who will lead you on an immersive food walk through the crowded markets of Old Delhi, a unique chance to understand and savour street food available from some of the oldest food places in the city. During the walk, you'll visit up to 9 food joints (some being as old as 120 years) trying out countless dishes. Then, you'll take a rickshaw ride to Chandni Chowk to discover the gems of the main street, before proceeding into busy streets which are forever bustling with the clamour and routine of daily trade, offering a glimpse of life back when the city started out as a commercial hub. There will also be a visit of Kinari Bazaar, where you'll find clothing, jewellery, spices, handicrafts and souvenirs on sale.

This afternoon, embark on a sightseeing tour of New Delhi. In 1911, King George V announced the transfer of the capital from Calcutta to Delhi. Thereafter, the city was designed and built by the British in the 1920's. The King's architects, Lutyens and Baker, designed an "Imperial City" having palatial-sized buildings set amid broad tree-lined avenues punctuated by Mughal style gardens. Your drive takes you along the ceremonial avenue, Rajpath, past the imposing India Gate – commemorating the 70,000 Indian soldiers who lost their lives fighting for the British Army during the First World War. Then, you'll pay a visit to the iconic Humayun’s Tomb. Built by emperor Humayun's wife, it took eight years to complete and is regarded as an example of the early Mughal architecture. The emperor's wife, Begai Begum, was buried in the tomb and the structure is the first of its kind built in the centre of a well-planned garden. The combination of white marble and red sandstone was a great influence on later Mughal architecture. It is generally regarded as a prototype of the famed Taj Mahal of Agra.
