Rajasthan is the epitome of romantic India. Towering forts, ornate temples, peaceful lakes and glittering palaces characterise the cities and towns of this incredible north-Indian state. This luxury tour includes stays at some of the region's most characterful heritage hotels while taking in many of its highlights as you travel from Delhi's bustling bazaars, through historic towns and villages to the fairy-tale desert settlement of Jaisalmer. Mingle with spice traders, camel farmers and holy men as you journey to medieval Bikaner and on to Jodhpur, whose blue jumble is watched over by the imposing Mehrangarh Fort. Finally, soak up the romance of peaceful Udaipur before a flight south brings you to Mumbai's commercial powerhouse and the home of the Bollywood film industry.

It's also a chance to take in some of the capital's ancient monuments and exquisite architecture, some of which dates back as far as the Mughal Empire. In the afternoon, take the metro across to New Delhi, where you'll discover wide boulevards, impressive government buildings and some of the city's most recognisable religious monuments, such as Humayun's Tomb and Qutub Minar, which reflect the ethnic and religious diversity of India's capital.
