A small bridge connects Xigera to a neighbouring island and provides guests with a close-up look at any passing wildlife, with both lion and leopard being regular visitors.
The vast majority of activities put on by Xigera are, unsurprisingly, water based. Depending on the flood levels, game drives are still offered throughout the year, although if the wet season has been particularly severe these are limited to the months of September through to April.
The highlight of a stay at Xigera is a mokoro ride. These traditional dug-out canoes are the best way of getting close to the action. Bird life is particularly prolific in this part of Botswana and the silent mokoro enables guests to get the best views of owls, cranes, egrets and kingfishers to name but a few.
After a day in the wild, the camp offers a perfect retreat for guests to relax and swap stories from the day's activities. A fabulous lounge, bar and dining area form the hub of the camp and meals are enjoyed in a traditional African boma with the stars clear overhead. There is also a refreshing plunge pool, ideal for cooling off after a hot day in the African bush.
As Xigera is the only camp in this area, guests can enjoy total privacy and be secure in the knowledge that no other groups will disturb the peace and serenity of this incredible corner of southern Africa.
We like: The abundance of bird and animal life and range of unique activities
Best for: Privacy and luxury in the heart of the Okavango Delta
