Location
Carved from the walls of a mountain cliff, Yunak Evleri is a collection of 5th and 6th century cave houses and a 19th century Greek mansion, all offering a unique and atmospheric stay in one of Turkey’s most breathtaking regions, Cappadocia. Yunak Evleri is ideally located for exploring the extraordinary geological oddities of Cappadocia, whether flying over the ‘fairy chimneys’ in a hot air balloon or trekking, cycling or horseback riding through the valleys, villages and vineyards. With cavernous churches and underground cities dotted throughout this iconic landscape, Yunak Evleri is a chance to experience a slice of this history in person.
Accommodation
The hotel’s accommodation is carved from the mountain in a series of 5th and 6th century houses that contain 46 guestrooms, while a 19th century Greek mansion houses the main lobby and various social spaces. A pool, charming restaurant and spa create a self-contained retreat that you may never want to leave.
Each of the 46 rooms and suites feature a private patio overlooking the Turkish Mesa, all accommodation is individually designed and sympathetic to its ancient roots. Killim rugs and traditional handicrafts add colour to the bare stone walls, their natural lines creating a cosy and romantic escape. Antique furniture, brass beds and traditional lighting add further charm without detracting from the intriguing whitewashed cave walls while marble bathrooms add an element of luxury.
Dining
Mealtimes allow further time for soaking in the surroundings, with outdoor and indoor dining options offering views over the caves and hills, whatever the weather. The Caverna Restaurant serves delicious Turkish dishes, local delicacies and hearty meals such as grilled chicken, steaks, pizza and tandoori meats. With sweeping views of the caves and featuring local Cappadocian dishes such as grape leaves, kebabs and ravioli, the Caverna Restaurant is a taste of Cappadocia in scenic surrounds. Outside terraces offer al fresco dining with a view while a cosy fireplace corner is ideal for cooler evenings. If the tranquil surrounds and mesmerising views don’t prove sufficiently relaxing, the caves also house an atmospheric spa, with holistic treatments taking inspiration from Balinese and Thai traditions.
