After breakfast, leave your Napa Valley hotel and head to the Napa Wine Train Station ready to check in and board. Take in the beautifully-restored interiors of the Pullman carriages as your gourmet lunch is served; you'll indulge in the likes of yellowfin tuna tartar, pan-seared Pacific halibut and beef tenderloin in the luxe setting of the Petit Gourmet Car. This is, after all, one of Napa's most premier dining experiences, which you'll enjoy alongside – naturally – an excellent choice of wines, expertly matched to each course.
Then, after passing the rolling, sun-soaked hills of Napa, edged with sprawling valleys and interspersed with pretty rural towns and some world-famous vineyards, you’ll reach the famous Grigch Hills Winery. Miljenko Grgich was behind the 1973 Chateau Montelena Chardonnay that won the 1976 Judgement of Paris, really putting Napa Valley on the map as a world-class wine region. Enjoy a one-hour private tour around the vineyard before a tasting session led by a member of the Grgich Hills staff.
Then, re-board the train and settle in to one of the opulent lounge cars, enjoying the dessert course in the painstakingly-restored 1915 Pullman train cart as you head back to Napa Station. Take the chance to explore the rest of the train, from opulent lounges to open-air viewing platforms, or just take in outside’s rolling vistas before arriving back at the station at around 3pm.
Please note, this tour departs daily apart from January-February when it departs only on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
