Introduction
The whitewashed villas and colourful bougainvillea that line the streets of Kalkan are all part of the town's uniquely bohemian atmosphere. With friendly locals and some of the best-preserved Ottoman and Greek architecture along this stretch of coast, Kalkan is a modest sized town that overflows with charm.
However, this town's popularity has less to do with its picturesque streets and beaches and more to do with the stunning dive sites off the coast. The beautiful island-dotted bay conceals dramatic rock covered pinnacles, favoured by grouper and barracuda; as well as several atmospheric shipwrecks a little further along the coast.
With the nearby ruins of Pinara and Tlos situated in carved out niches of the Xanthos River valley, this is a region of adventure both above and below the waves, able to offer you a more sophisticated break than the usual sun-sea package holiday.
