Seven-time winner of ‘World’s Leading Travel Experience by Train’, Rocky Mountaineer is Canada’s most luxurious rail journey. And, with included gourmet dining and drinks, impeccable service and a choice of glass-domed carriages, there’s surely no better way to experience the majesty of the Rockies. You’ll also enjoy a range of included off-train excursions, including a programme of guided tours and even a gondola ride over Banff. In between, you’ll take in Vancouver’s waterfront charm, stay on the shores of Lake Louise and end with Calgary’s Wild-West highlights.

Day by day itinerary

Days 1-2
Vancouver

Begin your trip in style with complimentary airport lounge access before your day flight out to Vancouver. On arrival make your way your central accommodation. Both options are located right in the heart of the city, so you’ll be perfectly poised to explore. You have two days to explore pretty waterfront walks, historic cobbled-street districts and even the small matter of the third largest Chinese garden outside of China. Put together and it’s no surprise that Vancouver often tops lists of the world’s most liveable cities.

Stay: Hampton Inn & Suites (Silverleaf) / Fairmont Waterfront (Goldleaf)

Day 3
Vancouver to Kamloops

Today, a transfer will transport you to the station where you’ll board the Rocky Mountaineer. Whether you choose the glass-domed carriages and gourmet, in-seat meals of the SilverLeaf service (Superior) or the dining-car indulgences of the split-level GoldLeaf alternative (Deluxe), today’s route is one of the most impressive. You will see dramatic changes in scenery, from the lush green fields of the Fraser Valley, through forests and winding river canyons surrounded by the peaks of the Coast and Cascade Mountains, to the desert-like environment of the BC interior. Highlights include the rushing waters of Hell's Gate in the Fraser Canyon and the steep slopes and rock sheds along the Thompson River. Your day concludes as the Rocky Mountaineer travels along the shores of Kamloops Lake into Kamloops. It’s all taken in with complimentary snacks and drinks – both alcoholic and non-alcoholic – available throughout the journey.

Day 4
Kamloops to Lake Louise

Your journey continues eastward to the mighty Canadian Rockies and the province of Alberta. Once again, you will experience ever-changing scenery as you travel across ranchlands, along rocky lakeshores, over high mountain passes and through the remarkable tunnels that form part of the rich rail history of the Canadian Rockies. Today's highlights include Craigellachie, where the last spike of the Canadian Pacific Railway was driven, the climb over Rogers Pass, Kicking Horse Canyon, the Spiral Tunnels and, of course, the iconic glaciers and snow-capped peaks of the Canadian Rockies. Your rail journey ends this evening in Lake Louise.
