Introduction
Ölüdeniz, or 'blue lagoon', is probably the most distinctive beachfront in the region, but the makeup of this particular beauty spot is about more than just white-sand and clear water. Here the dramatic hillsides swoop down into a long extended sand bar forming a sheltered seawater lagoon popular with sun lovers.
The steep hillsides here make this a popular spot for paragliding, while the waters are at perfect swimming temperature for most of the year. The only downside is the height of season crowds, but you can easily avoid sharing your relaxation spot by heading out to more isolated points, such as Gemiler Islet and Paradise beach.
Ölüdeniz lagoon is a protected area, so although you will find plenty of amenities further back from the beach in Ölüdeniz town, the actual coastline remains remarkably free from the big development that has marred the beauty of many of Turkey's popular tourist beaches.
