From the elegant rooms to its rooftop pool, this Sorrento favourite looks right out over the Gulf of Naples to the iconic cone of Mt. Vesuvius. This privileged setting is backdrop to lazy days spent by the pool and dinners of just-caught fish, served al fresco. It’s no wonder that it’s become one of our clients’ preferred options in Sorrento.
The Grand Hotel de la Ville is also ideal for those who want a secluded setting, while having the bustle of Sorrento’s historic centre within easy reach. Indeed, although you’ll be tucked away next door to a large orange grove, the town’s historic churches, fishermen’s marina and cobbled streets are all just a short stroll away.
That said, there’s plenty to keep you back at base. With its stunning sea views, tempting bar and whirlpool pool, the rooftop garden is a true delight Alternatively, for some extra shade and full-length swimming, head down to the ground-floor pool. It’s temperature controlled, but considering the long Italian summers, it’s difficult to see why. Then, for further relaxation, book onto a massage at the hotel’s spa, or simply indulge with the array of dining options available.
It all starts with breakfast, which has long been a highlight for clients and Wexas specialists alike. Expect a fantastic array of cold cuts, fruit tarts and just-baked breads. Many are so impressed that they then opt for half- or full-board. Served à la carte, you can expect a full array of local delicacies complemented by home-made ice creams and local pastries. This being Sorrento, the seafood is always a good option. We recommend taking your meals under the lemon-tree pergola in the hotel’s shaded courtyard.
Then, in terms of the rooms, even the entry-level options come with everything from elegant wooden furnishings to Italian-marble bathrooms. And, while all feature balconies, we highly recommend going for one with a sea view, to take advantage of the hotel’s stunning position. However, whichever you choose, you won’t be disappointed by the beautifully classic styling, exemplified by the oh-so-traditional Amalfi tiling.
