Canada

Breathtaking beauty at every turn

Tailor-made Canada holidays

Introduction

From vast painterly landscapes to exciting winter adventures; from multicultural cities to thrilling, dirt-lined rodeos, the world’s second-largest country is as dazzling as it is hard to define.

Canadian culture

Big, boisterous and exceptionally beautiful, Canada is a traveller’s dream. Culturally, it’s a cross-stitch of a thousand threads, combining indigenous traditions, especially in its northern territories, with a mix of European, Asian and other immigrant influences. There’s a rich diversity that’s showcased across all ten provinces, although French-speaking Québec is regarded as one of the world’s finest examples of cultural preservation. Canada is tolerant, inviting, and, according to many, even friendlier than its flashy neighbour.

Canada's cities

This country’s cities are exciting and varied, each with a distinct character and charm, from the delightful, eighteenth-century architecture of Montréal to the Wild-West sensibilities of Calgary and the distinctly European atmosphere of Québec City, whose World-Heritage-listed old town is one of North America’s oldest settlements. Multicultural Toronto – gateway to Niagara Falls and the Great Lakes – is where you’ll find some of Canada’s finest restaurants, while the west-coast city of Vancouver is perfectly positioned to enjoy an endless array of mountain and coastal pursuits.

Canada's natural world

Canada’s greatest star is surely its natural world, stunningly diverse in topography and rich in animal life. Coastlines – all cragged cliffs and secluded bays – shelter whales, seals and dolphins, while inland the countryside mixes turquoise lakes and snowy mountain ranges with frozen tundra and endless forests,  home to birds, bears and bison. Listen carefully and you might even hear grey wolves howling in the distance.

What our clients say about our Canada holidays

  • I thought I knew Western Canada very well but your specialist was able to find some very exciting additions that added real value to our holiday. Where there was a choice of hotels we were very pleased with their locations and quality. The Wedgewood was a special favourite. Booking of unusual travel requests like seaplane flights and flights into the northern forests were accomplished in seconds. Flawless and accomplished sum up the service we received.

    Peter P

  • The trip was extremely well organised and we were well advised by Patrick Griffin. We managed to do and see everything we had planned with him. We had a very good set of information and instructions on arrival at our first destination with a well prepared series of maps of our itinerary. There were no hitches and everything progressed very smoothly. Altogether excellent, and even the weather was good.

    Braham B

  • We were delighted with our Destination Specialist, Heather, nothing was too much trouble and she was able to provide 'local' knowledge on so much. The hotels/lodges she booked for us were superb. All round Excellent! The holiday was a real joy and 'holiday of a lifetime' experience. We have a visit to Australia planned for January and I am sure this will be just as good, thank you

    Stephen S

  • Good friendly service. Emma responded to any queries we had both before and during the trip very quickly. She planned a wonderful itinerary to Canada for us which includeda short stay on an island only accessible by helicopter and a trip on the world famous Rocky Mountaineer

    Barbara B

  • Catherine Blackburn gave us the itinerary we enjoyed and the hotels we stayed in were very good. Our change of flight and upgrade to first class that she arranged for us on the way out at an extremely reasonable cost was a real joy!

    Alan A

  • The planned journey fully met our expectations with the time in Quebec and Montreal balanced perfectly with a stay in the woods bear watching at Sacacomie Lodge. Thanks to Patrick for his advice and organisation.

    Trevor T

  • Catherine Blackburn was extremely helpful, especially when we changed requirements to incorporate a stop over, with different travel arrangements for each of the party (of two).

    Julie J

  • I feel very confident using Wexas for my travel arrangements. The regard given to detail in organising the trip is excellent.

    Isobel I

  • For the money I paid, faultless. The Canadians I spoke to about my package were well-impressed too.

    Michael M

  • We were really able to relax with confidence in all the arrangements.

    Carol C

  • I gain confidence knowing I have Wexas backup should I need it.

Canada is geared up to visitors at all times of the year and though winters are dark and bitterly cold, some of the world's most impressive ski resorts open their doors and the cities host a festival of winter carnivals. That said, summer is generally the most popular time to visit. The lakes and the Pacific coast sparkle with sailing boats and kayaks, hikers take to the mountains, the cities are buzzy with cyclists and bladers and much daily living takes place al fresco. In the south, summer lasts between May and September. It starts slightly later in the north, sometime in June and lasts until the first snowfall, which is sometimes as …
